Generic semaglutide brands in India with prices list
  • 0

Ever since the semaglutide patent expired in India on 20 March 2026, chemist shelves have filled up with new names. Semanat, Sundae, GLIPIQ, Obeda, Noveltreat, Semaglyn, Semasize, Semalix… the list keeps growing, and most patients are understandably confused. Which company makes which brand? Which one is cheapest? And are they all the same medicine?

In this guide we have put together a complete, easy to read list of generic semaglutide brands in India, with the company name, form (vial, pen or tablet), approved use and the latest available price for each. We have also explained the price differences, recent recalls and how to choose the right brand with your doctor.

Quick Answer

  • About 12 Indian companies have publicly launched generic semaglutide, selling around 20 brands between them.
  • Cheapest option: multi-dose vials from Natco (Semanat, Semafull) and Eris (Sundae) at around Rs 1,290 per month, followed by Glenmark GLIPIQ at about Rs 1,300 per month.
  • Cheapest pen: Alkem’s Semasize, Obesema and Hepaglide at around Rs 1,800 per month.
  • Weight management brand with higher doses: Sun Pharma’s Noveltreat, about Rs 3,600 to Rs 8,000 per month depending on strength.
  • Original brands for comparison: Ozempic costs Rs 5,660 to Rs 9,100 and Wegovy Rs 5,660 to Rs 16,400 per month.

Why Are There So Many Semaglutide Brands?

When a patent expires, any company that gets approval from CDSCO (India’s drug regulator) can make and sell the medicine under its own brand name. That is why one molecule, semaglutide, is now available under so many names.

One interesting thing many patients do not know is that there are far more brands than actual manufacturers. Some companies make the medicine and others only sell it:

  • Natco makes the product that Eris sells as Sundae.
  • Zydus supplies Lupin (Semanext, Livarise) and also Torrent.
  • Dr Reddy’s partnered with USV (Usema) and also supplied Torrent.
  • MSN Laboratories supplies Torrent as well.

So two different brand names can sometimes come from the same factory. This matters because if one plant has a quality problem, it can affect several brands at once, as we saw in July 2026.

Price Bands: Vial vs Pen vs Weight Loss Brands

If you look at all the brands together, prices fall into three simple bands:

  1. Vials (cheapest): Rs 1,290 to Rs 1,760 per month. Natco, Eris and Glenmark. You draw the dose with a separate insulin-type syringe.
  2. Diabetes pens (middle): about Rs 1,800 to Rs 4,500 per month. Alkem, Zydus, Torrent, Dr Reddy’s, MSN, Natco and Eris pens.
  3. Weight management pens and higher strengths (top): up to about Rs 8,000 per month. Mainly Sun Pharma’s Noveltreat.

The interesting part is that the device decides the price more than the medicine. Natco and Eris, who sell both, charge more than three times as much for the pen as for the vial of the same molecule. You are paying extra for convenience and accuracy.

What Does “2 mg” or “4 mg” on the Box Mean?

This confuses a lot of patients. The mg written on a semaglutide vial or pen usually shows the total medicine inside, not your weekly dose. For example, a 2 mg pen or vial may give you several weekly doses of 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg, while a 4 mg or 8 mg pack is meant for higher weekly doses.

So please do not compare brands only by the number on the box. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how many weekly doses your pack gives at your prescribed dose, and calculate the cost per week from that.

Generic Semaglutide Tablets (Oral) in India

Generic versions of the semaglutide tablet (the generic equivalent of Rybelsus) are also available:

  • Dr Reddy’s Obeda tablets: 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg at about Rs 99, Rs 135 and Rs 225 per tablet
  • Torrent (Sembolic): 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg tablets

Tablets are taken daily on an empty stomach, so the monthly cost depends on your dose. They are mainly used for type 2 diabetes and generally give less weight loss than weekly injections.

Important Update: Recalls and Supply Issues in 2026

The generic market has not been completely smooth. In July 2026, Dr Reddy’s paused supply of Obeda after some batches failed quality tests because of an issue with the active ingredient, and expected to resume supply by November. On the same day, Torrent recalled select batches of Semalix pens, which were made by Dr Reddy’s. USV also recalled select batches of Usema.

The companies said there were no patient safety concerns, but it is a reminder that quality can vary. The government is also working on a national quality standard (monograph) for semaglutide that will set common purity limits for all brands.

If you are using any of these brands, check your batch number with your pharmacist or doctor. Do not stop the medicine on your own.

How to Choose the Right Generic Semaglutide Brand

The cheapest brand is not always the best one for you. Discuss these points with your doctor:

  1. Your goal: Diabetes control, weight loss or both. Some brands are approved only for diabetes, while others like Noveltreat and Alkem’s brands are approved for weight management too.
  2. The dose you will need: Weight loss often needs higher doses up to 2.4 mg, and not every brand offers them.
  3. Vial or pen: Vials are cheaper but need correct syringe technique. Pens are easier and more accurate for most people.
  4. Company reputation and supply: Stick to well known manufacturers, and avoid switching brands every month just to save a little money.
  5. Availability in your city: Some brands are easier to find in metros than in smaller towns.
  6. Buy safely: Only from a licensed chemist or verified online pharmacy with a valid prescription. Semaglutide is a Schedule H drug. Avoid Instagram and WhatsApp sellers, as fake pens have been reported.

Generic Semaglutide vs Mounjaro

Many patients compare cheaper generic semaglutide with Mounjaro (tirzepatide). Mounjaro usually gives more weight loss, but there is no generic Mounjaro in India yet, and it costs Rs 13,125 to Rs 25,781 per month. For a detailed comparison, read Mounjaro vs Ozempic, Wegovy vs Mounjaro and Mounjaro cost in India.

Who Should Not Take Semaglutide?

No matter which brand you choose, semaglutide is not suitable for:

  • People with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 syndrome
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • People with a history of pancreatitis, unless cleared by a doctor
  • Anyone allergic to semaglutide

It should always be started after a proper medical check-up. You can check if you fall in the eligible range using our free BMI calculator.

Which generic semaglutide brand is best for weight loss?

Approved generics contain the same molecule and have shown bioequivalence to the original in studies submitted to CDSCO. Ozempic has a longer track record, while generics are much cheaper. Read our detailed article on whether generic semaglutide is as safe as Ozempic.

Can I buy generic semaglutide without a prescription?

No. Semaglutide is a Schedule H prescription medicine in India. Buying without a prescription also increases the risk of getting a fake or wrongly stored product.

Final Word

The arrival of generic semaglutide has made GLP-1 treatment affordable for lakhs of Indians, with prices now starting from around Rs 1,290 per month. But with so many brands on the shelf, the right choice depends on your goal, dose, device preference and the reliability of the manufacturer, not just the lowest price.
